Experiencing a fire at your home can be absolutely devastating. Not only are fires incredibly dangerous, they can destroy or damage many of your possessions as well as your home itself. However, it’s important that you know what to do following a house fire.

First of all, be very careful about walking into your home after the fire is out. Make sure you ask the fire department to make sure your house is structurally sound and safe for you to walk through. Secondly, don’t let your kids go back inside yet. The soot and dirty water that has collected inside of your home could potentially contain things that might make you sick. Before you begin cleaning up or making repairs, ask the fire department or restoration specialists whether it is safe to do so. If the fire department has turned off your utility services, do not turn them back on yourself. The fire department most likely turned them off for safety reasons so make sure you find out if its safe to turn them back on before you do so.

Use these tips following a house fire and contact us at Parker Young if you need fire damage restoration services.
