The water heater is a feature that most homeowners take for granted. However, it’s important to keep it maintained in order to prevent any serious problems in the future. The following are three home safety tips to keep your water heater running as smoothly as possible:
Drain the water heater’s tank. Open your water heater’s cold-water supply valve so that you can stir up the sediment that has gathered at the bottom of the tank. Drain and repeat this process until you see clean water coming out.
- Adjust the temperature of the water heater. It doesn’t have to be any higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit in order to operate efficiently – this will help cut down on energy use as well as wear and tear.
- Add insulation to your pipes. This will help prevent condensation during the summer months. Be sure to use thick foam insulation that will match the diameter of your pipes. You should be able to just slide the insulation into both your hot and cold pipes.
