You’ve put a lot of money and effort into creating the perfect home–the last thing you want to do is to have it damaged or destroyed. One of the most common dangers homeowners face is fire. The following are five ways a fire can start as well as home safety tips to help prevent disaster:
- Cooking accidents – Avoid accidents in the kitchen by never leaving your stove unattended and keeping flammable objects away from open flames.
- Electrical failures – Electrical appliances such as dryers and portable heaters can cause fires due to circuit overloads, wiring malfunctions or outlet problems. Never use extension chords for larger appliances.
- Electrical distribution mishaps – Wiring, lamps and cords can all lead to fires if used improperly. Don’t run any cords underneath your rugs and replace any cords that are worn.
- Children – Keep matches, lighters and other heat sources away from your children. Tell them to let you know if they ever find any around the house.
- Heating equipment – Have your heating equipment, such as your chimney, fireplace, stoves and more, inspected regularly.
