The last thing you want to think about is your pet getting stuck in your home during a fire. But this isn’t something you should ignore – you should plan for it in the event that it might happen. The following are the steps you should take to prepare your pet for potential fires in your home:
- Keep your pets near the entrance – When you are away from home, keep your pets near the entrance. This way, if there is a fire, then firefighters can easily locate your pets and bring them to safety outside the house.
- Use monitored smoke detectors – You must have smoke detectors on every level of your house in order to warn you of a possible fire. You may want to use monitored smoke detectors that will alert emergency responders when they go off.
- Add a pet alert window cling – Write down how many pets are in your home and place it on a static cling. Attach that to the front window so that any emergency responders will know immediately if you have pets inside.
