Having to deal with a flooded home can be an incredibly stressful experience – especially if water has caused serious damage to different parts of your house. However, the flooding doesn’t have to be looked at as a completely negative experience. Having to repair certain parts of your home can give you the opportunity to do a little bit of remodeling in order to make your home more functional or pleasant to live in.
For example, if a large part of your first floor has been ruined by water damage, you could create a different layout instead of just repairing every first floor room as it was. You could simply tear down a couple of the walls that have been ruined in order to create a more open, loft-type atmosphere. Since a lot of ruined materials are going to end up in the landfill, we recommend using reclaimed materials for your renovation to help reduce your environmental footprint and to create a more unique home aesthetic. For example, try using reclaimed wood instead of newly produced materials for your floors, walls and ceiling beams.
