The key to keeping out mildew and mold is controlling dampness. Crawl spaces, attics, basements, exterior walls; anywhere water can leak in, mold and mildew follows. Making sure there’s good ventilation in the attic, stopping leaks, and keeping water away from your home’s foundation are crucial to preventing mold and mildew.
To prevent mold from invading your bathroom, always run the fan for five or ten minutes after a shower; if the moisture’s not gone by then, you may need a stronger fan. Also squeegee down your shower walls as this removes 3/4 of the moisture. Another preventive measure is to paint with mildewcide, especially in rooms prone to moisture.
