The New Year is a great time to do some home maintenance that will prepare your house for the rest of the year. Since the New Year is right around the corner, begin by implementing these home safety tips:
- Check your smoke and CO alarms – Because it is winter, odds are you are using your heating system much more. Be sure to change the batteries in your smoke and CO (carbon monoxide) alarms and to test them to make sure they are working properly.
- Change your furnace filter – Since you’ll be using your furnace for the rest of winter, you’ll want to make sure it’s working properly and efficiently. You should check your filter every month and replace as needed to keep your warm air circulating through your home properly.
- Do a radon test – Radon is one of the leading causes of lung cancer, which means you’ll want to make sure that there aren’t dangerous levels of radon in your home. Get a long-term test kit to check the levels.
