Making sure that your home is prepared for potential emergencies is an absolute must if you care about the safety and security of you and your family. One way to find out if you are properly prepared for a potential emergency is by comparing your emergency preparedness with that of the rest of the country.
The Census Bureau recently conducted a survey known as the American Housing Survey in which they asked people how ready they were for a possible emergency. The following are some of the results:
- Roughly 86.2 percent of households have enough non-perishable foods to sustain the whole household for three days.
- Around 57.7 percent of households have access to an emergency water supply consisting of at least three gallons of water per person.
- About 95.7 percent of households have access to a vehicle that they can use to escape to safety at least 50 miles away. Around 68.2 percent of those respondents replied that they could stay with relatives or friends for at least two weeks.
