Severe storms wreak havoc on shade trees here in the southeast. The good news is that taking time to do an inventory of your trees will help you prevent damage to your home from occurring during dangerous weather.

Take an inventory of your trees to determine if any of them appear diseased or damaged. Sick or old trees are more likely to topple over during adverse weather conditions. Look for mushrooms at the base of the tree, which can be indicators of root disease.

Remove invasive vines, such as English Ivy. This will give you a clear view of the base of your tree. It’s important to note that invasive vines can lead to strangulation of your tree because they cut off the nutrients your tree needs in order to remain healthy.

Avoid root damage while working on replacing the sidewalk or digging up any part of your yard as it can lead to your tree being uprooted.

Talk to nursery workers about the correct care of any additional trees you decide to purchase for your yard. This can help you avoid running into problems with severe weather in the future. And be sure to contact us for more information about how to prevent damage to your home during bad weather.
