It is hard to think about finances when you are asked to evacuate your home due to an impending flood or hurricane, but preparation saves lives. Here are few tips for quickly getting finances in order as part of Georgia disaster prevention.
- Have enough cash for three to five days in case the nearest ATMs are not working.
- Know your passwords for financial information online. They can be stored with “cloud computing” if you will have access to a computer and wifi.
- Use online banking and set up bill payments if you will not be able to pay in person or through the mail.
- Keep your car, life , home and flood insurance information with you if you have to evacuate.
If you can stay in your home, make sure your computer and any important papers stay dry. Take your laptop if you have one, with you if evacuation is necessary. You may need immediate access to insurance information if your home and car are damaged.
