As a homeowner, one of the things you’ll want to do is prevent major damage from occurring. This may seem like an incredibly obvious tip. However, more often than not there are signs of damage that homeowners ignore, which causes the damage to grow, resulting in more costly repairs. These signs often come in the form of strange noises. Keep an ear out for the following noises:

Scratching sounds – If you hear scratching sounds from behind your walls, they could be coming from small animals, such as rodents. Not only is this a health issue, but they could chew through your insulation as well.
- Clanking sounds – If you hear clanking sounds when you turn your heat on, specifically from within the boiler, then it could be a sign that your circulator pump is about to fail – you’ll want to get a repairman out immediately.
- Running water – If you hear running water but aren’t actually running your water, turn off your main water valve to see if it goes away. If not, you may have a busted pipe in your home.
