It’s pretty easy to get excited about a remodeling project, especially larger ones that incorporate different features that you’ve been wanting for years. However, it’s important not to overlook safety when remodeling – especially fire safety. You’ll want to ensure that your renovations don’t present new safety hazards in order to prevent damage to your home.
An example of how a renovation could make your home less safe is if you were to implement a drop ceiling into your home right below your fire sprinklers. This would result in your fire sprinklers being unable to perform should you need them. Always be aware of where your fire sprinklers are and make sure that none of your home’s modifications interfere with their performance. In addition to being a fire hazard, many states have building codes in regards to the necessity of fire sprinklers and ensuring that they can perform as designed. This may make your planned renovation a bit more tricky and expensive, but remember – it’s not worth risking the safety of your home just for a renovation.
