Disaster can strike at any time. Whether it is the form of a storm, fire or any other disaster, it pays to be prepared for the unexpected by having an inventory of all your property for insurance purposes. Here are some tips for creating an unassailable inventory that any insurance adjuster will have a hard time disputing:

  • Be Systematic – Take your time in every room and list everything. The first time that you do this, it will take a significant amount of time – several hours or more – to do it properly but your future updates will probably only take fifteen minutes.
  • Don’t Just Include the “Big” Things – List everything or you will get nothing. Adjusters will throw a low ball figure for incidentals if you don’t have an itemized list.
  • Include the Location – This little detail will show the adjuster that you actually did make an actual list and did not just invent one after the fact.
