If you own a home, it’s important to purchase a homeowner’s insurance policy. In fact, it’s often required if you are taking out a mortgage. The last thing you want is for an accident to happen that requires home disaster repair without being financially protected. However, did you know that there are a number of other things that your homeowner’s insurance policy covers? The following are a few of the lesser known protections that many homeowner’s insurance policies offer:
- Losses Away From Home – Any possessions that you lose or that are damaged away from home can be covered for up to ten percent of the total personal property coverage on your policy.
- Liability Outside the Home – If you accidentally injure someone outside your property, or your dog bites someone away from home, your policy could cover court costs and awards.
- Credit Card Protection – Believe it or not, most policies cover up to $500 of unauthorized use of your debit, credit or ATM card.
- Counterfeit Money – If you received counterfeit money, you can be protected up to $1,000.
