Winter is here and this year looks set to be a cold winter across the country.  Keeping your home warm means providing comfort to your whole family, however safety should be kept in mind when heating your home.

Here are some tips to help keep your home safe and warm this winter.

  • Fireplaces can add warmth to any living space, however using flammable liquids or too much paper to start a fire can be dangerous.
  • Block off heat sources that are low to the ground so that children and pets don’t get close to the fire.
  • If you have a fireplace with a chimney, have the chimney cleaned and inspected every year before use.
  • Install carbon monoxide alarms inside your home to alert you of excess carbon monoxide in the air.
  • Do not burn charcoal inside as it lets of deathly amounts of carbon monoxide.
  • Never go to bed or leave the house while a fire is burning in your fireplace.

Using these tips can help you enjoy warmth in your home whilst keeping your family safe. Contact us at Parker Young for more home safety tips and advice on how to keep your home safe.
